You’re Alive!

For Kimberly S. Hoffman

You once were a woman wild as can be

Full of playful mayhem masking insecurity

You kept yourself hidden ‘neath another skin

Yearning to live and given liberties again

The soul you had been was lost and gone

Wand’ring aimless without a song

You hid your heart away so it wouldn’t break

Dutiful, beautiful dreamer unable to claim her stake

You wanted to live

You’d been told that you wanted to fall right in line

To do what the rest of them did

But what you really wanted was the freedom to choose

And the confidence that had been hid

You were running the roads regaled in robes

Custom sewn for a soul unknown to you

The fire you stoked, it started to choke

And snuffed the flame of a love much overdue

In order to breathe, you fell to your knees

Crawled down on the ground until you came to a stop

And when you finally arose, the life that you chose

Made that face in the mirror drop the façade

You wanted to live

You’d been told that you wanted a fairy tale life

A perfect palace and a prince to propose

But what you really needed was to feel the wind in your sails

To adjust your tack, to survive where it blows

There finally came a day your will trumped your way

To keep fanning your fears would only add more weight

So you doubled up on the strength you thought that you lacked

Emerged strong from your cocoon; now there’s no turning back

You wanted to live

And now you’re Alive!

You’re Alive!

Now go dance to the beat of your angel wings

Sing the songs that you were meant to sing

Flesh and blood and spirit and mind

You are his beloved and his beloved is mine

You wanted to live

And now you’re Alive!

You’re Alive!

You’re alive!

You’re alive!

You’re alive!

And now you know how great it is to be alive.

You’re Alive!

You’re alive!

You’re alive!

You once were a woman wild as can be

Now you know what you can be

A true love story

You’re alive!
