I had an absolute blast chatting with New York Times best selling author Michael Koryta last week. It sounded like the audience of 200-some folks enjoyed it, too.
The author talk, put on by the Johnson County Public Library March 27 on the campus of Franklin College, brought the Bloomington, Indiana, native in to chat about his 19 novels, including his latest release, Lost Man’s Lane, which published last week. That novel was written under Michael’s pen name, Scott Carson, which he uses for the horror stuff.
My job was to engage Michael in conversation, enlightening and entertaining the audience. Many of the attendees had read several of Michael’s books, as well as some of Scott’s. We should have had a third chair! I could have made Michael run back and forth from one chair to the other as he answered questions as one or the other of his persons.
Fortunately, I got to meet Michael ahead of time, and after 10-15 minutes, I could tell we were on the same page. That meant I could sprinkle a bit of levity into the festivities. Michael played along and made it easy for me.
After a half-hour of prying into his authoring, we opened it up to audience questions. Great job, audience members for some fantastic questions.
Afterward, Michael sold and signed books, and posed for photos.
I am thankful to the Johnson County Public Library for allowing me to sell my books, too.
